Parashat Derech

Shira's Bat Mitzvah - Parashat Nitsavim Vayelech

I met Shira and her family twice in their garden to learn and plan the trip.

Shira decided to emphasis the Shira- song element mentioned in the Parasha   "and now, write this song and teach it to the children of Israel"    Dvarim 31/19

So we went on a day trip and were so happy that her grandmother could join.

We started the day in Kibbutz Sdot Yam . we met Tzviyah  our  local escort and guide.

We stopped of at Yael Artzi's  sculptor workshop  and had a chance to meet her.

We continued to the Hanna Senesh  museum. Even though it was under renovation Shira was treated to a sneak preview in honur of her Bat Mitzvah.

We waited by the statue of Hanna Senesh and when shirah arrives we studid some of her poems and songs. We took note that she was very connencted to jewish history and saw gerself as part of the past and future. After singing Eli Eli , we walken along the coast where it was written and even did some splashing around.

We combined lunch with a walk through the baron Gardens  and spoke about realizing your dreams, we also enjoyed some hands on art amongst the trees.

We continued to Zichron Yaakov to learn about Sara Aaronson of the Nili spy ring and then ended the day by the famous songwriter Ehud Manor's childhood home. We sat in a memorial garden and sang his songs that Shira chose ahead of time. We noticed that many of his songs are very personal and spoke about the differences between him Hanna Senesh.

How history reflects in their songs and how we choose between the personal and national at different times
